Programs

The primary mission of the Romare Bearden Foundation is to support the creative and educational development of young people and of talented and aspiring artists and scholars. We do this through our programs that preserve, perpetuate and make publicly accessible the extraordinary legacy of the notable visual artist and intellectual.

Beyond the material legacy of Romare Bearden’s art, archives and literary works, the Foundation’s mission is based entirely upon Bearden’s own legacy of nurturing and supporting the creative and intellectual potential of artists, children and scholars.

Established in 1990, two years after Romare Bearden’s death, the Foundation is one of the oldest organizations of its kind established for an African American artist.
