Kamoinge + En Foco: Advancing the Frame

This exhibition celebrates two historic organizations that support camaraderie, exhibitions, publications and mentorship. This year Kamoinge turns 51, En Foco, 40.

Both groups were born in the currents of the Civil Rights and Black Arts Movements. Neither draws too strict a line between fine art at the highest aesthetic levels and political responsibilities, deeply felt: beautiful artistry that enables life-sustaining actions.

Curated by Diedra Harris-Kelley, Robert G. O’Meally, and C. Daniel Dawson.

Organized as part of the Bearden Foundation’s mission to present the works of other artists.  The exhibition includes over 75 artworks, and two reading rooms where viewers can explore timelines on the groups, peruse publications by members, and read issues of Nueva Luz, the magazine En Foco has produced for 30 years.

Viewing Hours: Monday- Friday 10:00am – 4:00 pm by appointment only.

The exhibition is made possible by a generous grant from the Nathan Cummings Foundation.
