From September 2011 through September 2012, the Bearden Foundation will celebrate the 100th Birthday of Romare Bearden, a 20th Century American master of the visual arts, and an innovator in the use of collage as a means of personal reflection and social commentary.

While Bearden is an internationally recognized figure, we will explore his work in the context of American art history, and alongside the work of other preeminent 20th Century American artists [e.g. Basquiat, de Kooning, Pollock, Warhol]; and through his impact on today’s artists.
