Romare Bearden Foundation honored by Neuberger Museum of Art

In conjunction with the exhibition “Romare Bearden: Abstraction” on view at the Neuberger Museum of Art, the Bearden Foundation will be among the honorees at the museum’s Benefête celebration November 4.  Also honored are community leaders Marilyn and Hugh Price.

The gala evening brings together museum patrons and sponsors for it’s annual fundraiser featuring cocktails, silent auction, with performances by Bruce Willis and his band, Dognip (Bruce Willis on blues harp, Danny Kortchmar, guitar and Steve Jordan on drums) All proceeds benefit the museum education and exhibition programs. Special remarks by Alvin Clayton, artist and restaurateur, and Danny Simmons, Jr. abstract painter, will introduce the honorees.

The Foundation is being honored for its contributions to the field, and for the work they do to assist with exhibitions such as “Romare Bearden: Abstraction”. Curated by Museum Director, Tracy Fitzgerald, the exhibition featured lesser-known abstract paintings created by Bearden in the late 1950’s and 1960’s.

The exhibition is on view now through December 22, 2017.
