Looking back… A Garden Party
Looking back on our Bearden Birthday Celebration for 2019, it was one for the records. We had a Garden Party & Art Auction hosted by a dear supporter Robert Van Lierop, at his lovely home in Montclair, NJ. The party was a beautiful festive affair, featuring a talk by Dr. Robert O'Meally, and a hugely successful art auction of works by Bearden, Ming Smith, Richard Mayhew, and many other artists
Much of the flair of the event was captured in a video summary created by E. Lee White for the Bearden Foundation:
Romare Bearden: A New Odyssey
On April 10th, 2014 the Foundation hosted a fundraiser to benefit their educational programs. “Romare Bearden: A New Odyssey” was held at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. The evening kicked off with a silent auction including artworks from nationally known artists Richard Hunt and Danny Simmons. Celebrated journalist and cable news host T.J. Holmes was master of ceremonies, and portrait artist Simmie Knox, was honored for his achievements in the Arts. Supporters enjoyed fine dining and live performances by recording artist Luke James, and the sounds of DJ Rashida. The theme of the gala was inspired by the exhibition.
An Evening of Art and Jazz Spring Fundraiser
An Evening of Art and jazz Spring Fundraiser was held on April 11th, 2011 at the Manhattan Penthouse, located at 80 Fifth Avenue.
True to the theme, the event featured musical tributes by pianist, composer Randy Weston with Alex Blake on bass and Neil Clark on percussion; vocalist Somi and her band; and the sounds of W. Myles Reilly on keyboard. The event was co-hosted by artists Emma Amos, David Driskell, Frank Stewart and Carrie Mae Weems, featuring a silent auction of their works. Proceeds fund the foundation's educational programs.
